Kent County Council case study
About the client
Kent County Council is the lead partner of the Kent Biodiversity Action Partnership. The Partnership required a website which would:
- Encourage the public to get involved in protecting biodiversity in Kent by way of engaging content
- Provide detailed information to businesses, planners and scientists through access to HAPs (Habitat Action Plans)
The challenge
To create a project website with two discrete audiences: the public and the scientific and business community. Its aims were to promote biodiversity to the public, requiring content for a non-scientific readership, while providing up-to-date status information to scientists and professionals. The brief demanded that navigation for each audience be clear and attractive and that the Council be able to update the site with new content as required.
The solution
Cubeworks formed a project team comprising design, usability and accessibility experts experienced in working with public sector clients. Cubeworks provided a complete solution, from the planning stage to design and development of the website. We also integrated our powerful WebAttaché CMS to allow the content team to manage the considerable amount of information throughout the site.
The result
The result was a visually appealing website - making use of some stunning photography - that is held in high regard by all the project partners. It was widely agreed that the design is lively enough to engage the audience while still providing clear navigation and content-rich sections. The website uses the latest web standards and has been praised for providing an "accessibility statement" which details the steps taken to facilitate browsing by visually-impaired visitors.
