Web standards
Your web site accessible to all people...
An internet presence signals your intention to be seen by everyone. At Cubeworks, that means everyone.
Over 10% of people in the UK experience sight, mobility, hearing, cognitive or learning difficulties.
New legislation, as part of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), came into effect in 2004 which affected websites for the first time. Websites must now be accessible to all interested parties, including users of large type, text-only browsers, text-to-speech browsers and Braille readers.
Building accessible web sites is a large part of our business.
It is also good business because:
- A fully accessible website ensures that you can reach 100% of your target audience
- The design principles behind an accessible web site also achieve high search engine rankings
Accessible to all browsers
Our designers will also create web pages that will be visible and effective regardless of what browser software your visitors are using. We optimise designs for all the major web browser packages as well as other devices such as PDAs and the latest mobile phones.
We use CSS, or stylesheets, to produce templates that are compliant with the latest web standards. Using table-free, CSS-based templates, your site will benefit from:
- A fresh, attractive design
- Compliance with accessibility requirements
- Compatibility with mobile browsing devices such as mobile phones
- Natural search engine visibility
- Lower ongoing maintenance costs
As a minimum, we test all our web templates on the following browsers:
- Microsoft Internet Explorer
- Mozilla Firefox
- Opera
- Netscape
- Safari
- Lynx (text browser)
- ...and a few less well-known ones too
Accessible to printers
Similarly, we can also create templates for straightforward printing. This will:
- Render your pages printer-friendly with no need for separate templates
- Save time and money on initial development
- Reduce long term maintenance costs in the event of changes
